Feeding and Nutrition

Good nutrition is a necessary requirement in a puppy’s life. Providing your puppy with the proper diet is one of the most important aspects of dog care. Extensive research has been conducted about the daily requirements of the food groups, vitamins, and minerals for dogs; in fact, the average American dog eats a more balanced and complete diet than the average American. There is a standardized minimum level determined for each nutrient, stated by the National Academy of Sciences Nutrient Requirements (NRC) for dogs.

When a commercial dog food claims to be "complete and balanced," this means that it meets these daily requirements. This standard has been set by the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials).
